Frequently asked questions
wedding terms glossary — the essentials
What's the difference between save the date and an invitation?
A Save the Date is a short heads-up sent 6-9 months ahead — just the date and city. The invitation comes 8-12 weeks ahead with full details and RSVP.
What does first look mean?
A planned first private meeting between the couple before the ceremony, usually with a photographer. It gives time for emotion and photos before things get busy.
Are kum and best man the same thing?
Not quite. The kum is a legal and religious witness (Bulgarian tradition). Best man is the Anglo-Saxon role — the chief groomsman who gives speeches.
What is a dry run?
A rehearsal of the ceremony the day before the wedding — usually on site, to avoid surprises.
